The polo neck // MostlyMilly

I have always worn black polo necks, even since I was little I remember wearing them and absolutely hating them. I used to announce to everyone that I was in fact suffocating and the neck was too tight. However, I've learnt to love them and think they're a must for anyone's wardrobe.

Over the last few years as my love of old films, and in particular Audrey Hepburn, has flourished I have discovered the polo neck is just one of the many timeless pieces from that era. Audrey in Funny Face undeniably wears the black polo neck to perfection (but then again, what didn't she wear to perfection?) .

You can find other examples of wonderful women from this time sporting the polo neck for example, Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall.

Polo necks have never really fallen out of fashion and hopefully never will. A nice big coat and black trousers paired with some cute black flats is my favourite way to wear them and I regularly do.

Here are a couple I own:

Both really simple, cheap and classic :)

And if you're still in doubt, I'm not the only one who swears by them x

Lastly, here is an inspirational, beautiful woman wearing a polo neck. If you're not already aware, Emma Watson has taken up a new role as UN Womens goodwill ambassador and is involved in a new movement called He for She. This wonderful speech she gave yesterday explains all about it :

If you're a male and have made it this far down a blog post about womens polo necks I love you and will also urge you to sign this, it will literally take you 1 minute and will make a huge difference :)
Also ladies, if you hear what Emma is saying and are as passionate about equality as I am, please ask your dads, brothers, boyfriends to do the same x

lots of love x

Coat obsession // MostlyMilly

I have a massive obsession and love for coats. They contribute to my adoration of Autumn and Winter and there's nothing I like more than a/w fashion. I wish I had a less expensive clothing obsession like socks or something because coats are always on the pricey side however if I had the money I know I'd have at least 20.

Here are two of my favourite coats.

My short cream one I got from Attic in Ilkley by Selected Femme, I fell in love with it and it's so smart and goes with a lot of my clothes. It's really lightweight and I can dress it down in jeans and a shirt or wear it on an evening with a skirt.

My long grey one I got for my birthday from Asos. It's so warm and oversized and I love anything oversized and cosy :)

The next coat I have my eye on is this black duster coat from Asos. I really want a light weight, long, black coat for this winter and fingers crossed it will be mine soon.

Trip to Saltaire // MostlyMilly

Today I went to Saltaire and Salts mill, one of my favourite places to go ( and not just because of the cakes ) . I love the history behind the town and the shops are adorable.
In the actual mill they sell hundreds of beautiful books and everytime I go in I seem to come out the other side with a few in my bag ( this sounds like I shoplift I swear they're all paid for ) .
Today I came across this book about Audrey Hepburn and the making of one of my favourite ever films ,Breakfast at Tiffanys.

Let's be honest, any book with Audrey on the cover I will have to buy.

After being dragged from the books we went to the Salts Diner and I had a Caesar salad ( honestly, I just ate the croutons and the cheese don't judge me ) and a diet coke. Sadly, I'm on a diet at the moment so had to pass on the menu of the most amazing cakes but if you go I definitely recommend the banana milkshake and chocolate cake.

Quick fix facials // MostlyMilly

I'm incredibly lucky to have pretty good skin. I hardly ever get spots but when I do they are HUGE and in no time there will more than likely be a lovely group of them sat on my face. In these rare ,unfortunate breakouts I need to take extra care and treat my skin. I have a couple of products that I use when this happens but none have worked as brilliantly as what I picked up from t k max.

This miracle Quick Fix Facials mega moisture gel mask for Dry and thirsty skin works amazingly. I usually slap in on as soon as I get in the shower, leave it to do it's magic whilst I wash my hair ect then wash it off at the end and my skin is left feeling so soft but tight like I've literally just had a facial ( hence the name ) . I've now discovered that there's a whole range of masks for different problems and different skin types that I'll definitely have to have a look for. I'm running out of product and I can guarantee I'll be repurchasing :) x

My everyday makeup bag // Mostlymilly

I have a thing about always having to bring a tonne of unnecessary makeup in my bag with me. Luckily my best friend Laura ( hi Laura if you’re reading this ) bought me this really pretty pink makeup bag for my birthday and since then I’ve been much more organised. I keep the majority of my makeup at my dads house and keep all my 100% essential everyday makeup in this bag.

It’s big enough to carry everything I need in it but small enough that I don’t end up filling it with things I don’t need.

Firstly, I always throw in my current foundations which at the moment are the Burberry sheer foundation in trench No.01 and I mix that with my favourite Nars Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc.

Current concealer Maybelline Coverstick in 01 .

My makeup brushes always get switched in and out but at the moment I carry 4 real technique brushes and the middle one is bare minerals.

Honey Bronzer from the Body Shop 01.

MAC Creme d’nude .

L’oreal Paris miss manga mascara.

The nail polish I’m currently wearing which is Essie in ‘Fiji’ .

Barry M Wink eyeliner.

Smashbox Pearl Highlighter wand.

Benefit Browzings in light + Maybelline Brow drama.

Hourglass lipstick in Nude 01 + Kevyn Aucoin lip pencil in medium.

Sleek palettes are the BEST for sticking in your bag. I have lots but at the moment I carry around the eyeshadow palette ‘ Au Naturel ‘ and the contouring and blush palette in fair.

Most used eyeshadows.

Thank you very much for reading! x
