How I contour // MostlyMilly

7th December

Hello! Today I thought I'd show you what I use to contour. I would be lying if I said I did this everyday. Most days I tend to stick to a more simple routine consisting of foundation and abit of bronzer but if I'm going somewhere nice or have a few extra minutes to do my makeup I like to use my Bobbi Brown foundation stick in golden. I bought this intentionally for contouring as clearly its way too dark for my skin tone. I had really wanted to try out a Nars matte multiple for contouring but when I found and swatched this, I really loved the colour and its golden/honey tone.

You could apply it straight from the stick but I find it can look a little heavy if you're not too careful. I prefer to use my real techniques foundation brush and here is where I apply it.

(Please excuse this terrible picture of me)
I apply the contour on the top of my forehead, the sides of my forehead, temples, just below my cheekbones, on the outer edges of my nose and on my jawline and then blend it all in with my real techniques buffing brush :)

After it's all blended in I think it gives a really pretty but subtle contour for my skin colour.

Thank you for reading! x

Bobble hat // MostlyMilly

6th December

Went shopping with my Grandma today and came across this wonderful hat at half price.

I believe it was originally £90 reduced to £45 and after trying it on my Grandma was kind enough to buy it for me as part of my Christmas present. I wore it straight away and haven't wanted to take it off since. It's so soft and cosy and covers my ears, making it great for this icey cold weather we're having.

The brand is Max&Moi and here's a link if you want to check it out x

I can't wait to wear it with my all black outfits, jumpers and boots. Tomorrow I think I'm going to help choose a Christmas tree with my Dad so I'll be wrapping up warm.

Here are some alternatives:

Winter reading // MostlyMilly

December the 5th

I briefly mentioned what I am currently reading in yesterdays blog post, Russell Brand’s
‘ Revolution’. It’s abit heavy and serious and not something I would regard as Christmas, festive holiday reading, however interesting to say the least and I am enjoying it.
I think it’s nice to have a good book ( or a couple of books if you’re a faster reader than me) to sink your teeth into over Christmas.

Here are three books I have read that I would recommend you to read over the coming festive weeks.

1. Jojo Moyes - Me Before You

I have read a handful of Jojo Moyes books over the last year and I really love her writing. I mean it’s not Charlotte Bronte or Oscar Wilde but it doesn’t claim to be. Her stories are simple but sweet and really easy to read. Every book I’ve read of hers leaves me totally invested in the characters and emotionally moved. *warning* you will cry at this book.

2. Truman Capote - Breakfast at Tiffanys

Truman Capote is a pleasure to read. I would also recommend his short stories which are equally marvellous to Breakfast at Tiffanys. Different to the movie but still endearing and I can still picture my beautiful Audrey as the perfect Holly Golightley.

3. Stephen Fry - More Fool Me

I was lucky enough to go to see Stephen a couple of months back, in Sheffield, talk about his book and various other things that increased my love for him even more. He signed my book afterwards and he is just as adorable in real life as he is on tv. This memoir is lovely and in fact I would encourage you to read his previous two memoirs before this one just so you can start from the beginning and prevent yourself from becoming confused. I’ve read all three and they are all good reads. I particularly enjoyed his first memoir ‘Moab is my washpot’

Christmas Cards // MostlyMilly

4th of December and today I sent out Christmas cards. Is it too early? Probably but I'm too organised this year, too excited that I couldn't resist. I've literally posted cards to family members that live a few streets away, that I could have walked down and posted myself, but chose to stick it in the postbox instead. I suppose it's nicer to receive a card in the post, I'm silly and terribly sentimental like that.
These are the cards I bought this year, they are from Paperchase. Very me I thought.

Like I mentioned before, I am SO organised. A corner of my room is filled with wrapped presents ready to go. Although I have exactly 3 weeks to go I am basically done.
We also put up the Christmas tree at my mums last night. I suppose that's one of the perks of having divorced parents, 2 Christmas trees, 2 Christmases, more presents.
Totally irrelevant fact, I'm currently reading Russel Brand's book 'Revolution' ( along with about 6 other books, 2 of which are due back to the library 3 days ago ) and it really is very interesting. I can't say I agree with everything he says but I think it's important to listen to opposing opinions to understand what's really going on. I also enjoy his finely chiseled cheek bones and sense of humour, he is literally hilarious. Would definitely recommend.

Christmas films// MostlyMilly

There's nothing nicer than snuggling up at Christmas time with a hot chocolate or cup of tea and your favourite Christmas film. Personally my all time favourite Christmas films go as follows:
- Love Actually
- The Holiday
- Elf

Love Actually, for me, is in another league. It includes most of my favourite actors including Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson and no matter how many times I see it it still makes me well-up .

Just these 2 Hugh Grant dancing scene gifs should be enough to make you want to go watch it right this second.

And Emma Thompson is just a gem.

The Holiday I also adore. A stellar cast includes Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, the sadly deceased but wonderful Eli Wallach and of course Jude Law. I have a Jude Law weakness. My love for him seemingly blinds me from some off his less brilliant acting but as long as I can see his face I'm totally fine with that.
* Inserts below 3 perfectly good reasons to watch The Holiday*

And obviously Elf. Elf is a classic and it really is bloody hilarious and I'm sure you've seen it before. If you've not had the pleasure of witnessing Will Ferrell prancing around in a very tight pair of yellow tights for 97 minutes then PLEASE watch it, you're missing out terribly.

Other Christmas films worth mentioning-
-The Santa Clause series ( Tim Allen, these films are my childhood )
-Nativity ( only the first one )

Films I need to watch this year that I haven't already-
-It's a wonderful life
-Home alone ( yep I really haven't seen it all the way through)

Decorating Grandmas // MostlyMilly

Hello loves,

Today we went for tea at our wonderful Grandma’s and I took some pictures of her Christmas decorations and also some in-action shots of us decorating the Christmas tree. She has a beautiful home and I’m so excited to celebrate Christmas day with all the family there. I hope you enjoy the pictures and I hope this post gets you in the Christmassy mood!

Blogmas // MostlyMilly

Hello my darlings!

I've decided I'm going to try my absolute hardest to post on my blog everyday in this month of December. I've been pretty sparse with my posting recently, mostly because of anxiety reasons but I think this will be a good challenge and a kick up the backside to get me back into it.
The posts will probably be Christmas related so it's one for all my fellow festive friends out there.

I've pretty much done all my Christmas shopping and it's really kicked up my excitement. My wrapping however is unbelievably terrible and I will most probably be offering my apologies inside Christmas cards for just how badly their gifts are wrapped. Although as they say, it's the thought that counts and of course it's ripped off and tossed in a black bin bag in 0.4 seconds so really it's not the end of the world. I seem to have bought the most glittery wrapping paper you can buy and even touching it results in a mess of sparkles. However lets be honest, a gold glittery mess isn't the worst kind of mess you can be faced with.
So wish me luck and if one day I seem not to have posted, someone bombard me with messages telling me to stop wallowing and get on a laptop.

lots of love x
