All about my hair // MostlyMilly

I get a lot of questions about my hair and a lot of compliments from lovely people who seem to take an interest in my hair. I thought I'd do a post to answer a few frequently asked questions about my hair for those who'd like to know more about it.

FAQ

1. Do you wear extensions?

Nope, I've actually never tried extensions in my life.

2. Is your hair naturally blonde?

Again no, my hair is naturally a very dull, boring, mousey grey.

3. How did you get your hair that colour?

I am very lucky in having a grandma who was a hairdresser for a long time. She's a magician in hair and she's been my personal hairdresser since I was a toddler. I think I got my first set of highlights when I was around 11. From 11 till 13 I gradually had more and more highlights in until I was really quite blonde. Then I decided one day that I knew it all and ( against my grandmas expert advice) I went to boots and bought some blonde hair dye because I thought it was a great idea and that I'd have even blonder hair afterwards. Big mistake. Went a little ginger and it dried my hair out to death, leaving it in a pretty bad condition. I then had enough of this horrible damaged hair and thought it would be a good idea to go to some random hairdresser and get her to dye my whole hair dark brown. Again, terrible decision. ( Are you seeing a pattern here? ALWAYS listen to my grandma ) It did nothing for me at all and didn't suit me one bit. It only made my hair very dry and faded quickly leaving me with a gingery mix of brown, blonde and split ends. I then went crawling back to my grandma and she managed to put in basically hundreds of highlights and restore my hair to it's former self.

4.  How did you grow your hair so long?

I actually get this question a lot and there's not a lot I can say! I don't take any special vitamins or have any secret tips on how to get long hair but I'd definitely recommend getting your hair trimmed every month/couple of months just to make sure you're not just growing out split ends because otherwise it just wont grow.

5. What shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I use Tresemme  shampoo and conditioner. I wash my hair every other day, at the most every 3 days. I shampoo my hair 3 times in the shower to make sure I give it a really deep clean then smother the ends of my hair in conditioner. I tend to avoid putting conditioner on the roots of my hair as you're in danger of making it greasy.

 6. What hair tools do you use?

Cloud nine of course. I use the standard iron to straighten my hair and I love using the waving wand to curl my hair. I love the waving wand because it's unlike any curling iron I've ever used, it will give you big curls like you've just had a blow dry or you've had your hair set in rollers. None of those ringlet , goldilocks curls.

7.  Is your hair naturally straight?

No, if I let it dry naturally it turns into a frizzy, wavy mess. Not quite curly but not straight either. So before I style my hair in any way I have to blow dry it properly or straighten it.

8.  What are your favourite hair styles for long hair?

Here are a few of my hair inspirations.

9. What is your favourite go to hairstyle?

When I feel inspired and can be bothered ( which isn't very often lately I have to admit) I love to curl all my hair with the waving wand and stick in a few rollers at the front of my hair. I then like to get a teasing comb and back comb my hair to give it some volume before messing it up, sticking in my sunglasses like a hair band and spray my head with hairspray.

10. What are you going to do next with your hair?

I have no idea. I'm so stuck and bored with it at this point. Not so much with the length but I'm terribly bored of the colour and although I wont do anything rash and have already been in talks with my grandma about it, I think before Christmas I'll get in a few honey toned highlights, maybe play with the colour abit and possibly consider a fringe. I just want an everyday updo I can throw up and walk out the house with. Audrey's 60's hair is my dream at the moment but I'm not sure I could pull it off . Watch this space...
